
Simon Bolivar was one of the most powerful figures in world political history,leading the independence movement for six nations .
Born to wealthy Creoles in Caracas, Venezuela, on July 24, 1783,his father died when he was three and his mother six years later. Bolivar was sent to Spain to complete his education.
In 1802, he married the daughter of a nobleman in Spain and returned to Caracas, only to have her die a year later from yellow fever. The fight for the independence of Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Panam,had involved 696 battles, with an average of 1,400 soldiers per engagement, counting both sides together. After an assassination attempt and with failing health, Bolivar resigned all his positions and died on December 10, 1830.
